Why Lake Country Montessori

A study of Milwaukee schoolchildren published in the journal Science found that Montessori students outperform traditionally taught students academically and socially.

Among the findings: 5-year-old Montessori students had better reading, math and social skills than 5-year-old non-Montessori children, and 12-year-old Montessori students wrote essays that were more creative and sophisticated than those by 12-year-old non-Montessori students. The study tested two groups of Milwaukee Public Schools students: those who by luck of a lottery got into a Montessori on the city's northwest side, and those who didn't.

It reaffirms the benefits of a system started by Maria Montessori 100 years ago.
Children have highly absorbent minds from birth to age 6, possessing limitless motivation and capacity to explore their environment and to perfect skills and understandings. Traditional daycare and preschool environments provide little material to engage these inquisitive and probing minds.

On the other hand, Lake Country Montessori uses a variety of structured materials designed specifically to engage the children and impart specific concepts and skills including Practical Life (fine and gross motor skill development), Sensorial (sensory and brain development), Language, Math, Geography, Science and Art.

At Lake Country Montessori, learning is a multi-sensory experience that involves exploring, probing, sensing, experiencing and discovering knowledge.
Education in traditional daycare (if any!) and preschool settings is teacher driven. The teachers decide what the children should learn at any time.

A distinguishing feature of Lake Country Montessori is that children direct their own learning, choosing among the sections of a well-structured and stocked classroom. Children are free to work at their own pace with materials they have chosen, either alone or with others. The teacher relies on his or her observations of the children to determine which new activities and materials may be introduced to an individual child or to a small or large group.

At Lake Country Montessori, children learn to study independently using their natural curiosity, creativity and intelligence. This helps them develop confidence in their own ability to learn, making them joyful, life-long learners.
Multi-age grouping of students provides opportunities for children’s broad social and intellectual development. Younger children observe older children at work and wish to emulate them even before they have had a formal lesson or presentation.

Older children, in turn, benefit from being leaders and role models to younger children. They reinforce lessons learnt by assisting or ’teaching’ younger children.

Multi-age classrooms are an important part of Lake Country Montessori education, allowing each child to develop socially and academically at the child’s own pace.
At Lake Country Montessori, our teachers are trained in Montessori system of education and have decades of related teaching experience. They know how to nurture and inspire the potential in their students and have prepared hundreds of students for life.

Lake Country Montessori is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, quality Montessori education. Our tuition fees are lower than all the Montessori schools in the region. Lake Country Montessori also provides before and after-school care at affordable rates to its students.
Lake Country Montessori was founded by parents and teachers to provide quality Montessori education to its students. Since its founding, there has been tremendous parent involvement and participation in school events and its management. In fact, the school is managed by a board that comprises entirely of parents of Lake Country Montessori students. This ensures that the school remains focused on its vision to provide quality education.

The warm, family-like atmosphere at Lake Country Montessori helps new students adapt easily to the montessori environment. Lake Country Montessori provides several occasions and events for families to socialize. These include Harvest Gathering in Fall, Holiday Gathering during Christmas, Father-Child Breakfast, Mother-Child Breakfast, Year-end Picnic on the last day of school.
Monthly Parent Education Night meetings provide opportunities for parents to learn and understand the Montessori way of education from the teachers. Parent Appreciation Night, at the end of the year, showcases the activities and accomplishments of students. Parents at Lake Country Montessori organize an Annual Auction Event, with substantial donations from local businesses and individuals, that helps raise funds for the school and makes the education affordable.
